Sian Hughes Cooke

Founder and Creator of Shimmering Studio Creative Retreat and owner of Shimmering Ivory Bespoke Couture.

Shimmering Ivory was created in 2009 showcasing Sian’s passion for fashion and truly bespoke design. She has designed and made some amazing wedding dresses and eveningwear for many unique women including celebrities.

Sian is originally from Wales. She graduated with a Ba Hons degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from University of Northumbria and is an experienced designer and Creative Director.

Sian has had a varied career as a lingerie, swimwear and womenswear designer. She has worked in New York, Paris and Far East for Victoria’s Secret and Calvin Klein.

Having this vast amount of global design experience, she wanted to connect people through design by opening the door of the Shimmering Studio to the public.

This venture is to give professional creatives and all the community an opportunity to maximise their talents and share their artistic skills.


Rachel Blanc

Rachel has worked for Shimmering Ivory since sept 2017. We recognised her incredible talent when she came for an interview and she started that very day!

She has been creating bespoke evening and bridal wear for Shimmering Ivory and will be teaching sewing classes and pattern classes such as cutting on the stand.

Rachel originally from Lancashire graduated with a 1st class hons in Costume Interpretation for theatre and screen at Wimbledon UAL 2017, Since graduating  Rachel has also built extensive experience in women’s dress making and traditional costuming techniques working for leading costumiers companies such as Cosprop and Angels in London.


Lisa Falconer 

Lisa is originally from South Africa and studied pattern cutting at The Haute Couture School of fashion design in Cape town in 1996. She is a sewing teacher and the seamstress behind The Avid Seamstress pattern company. As a seamstress, she has been sewing for over 20 years. She loves teaching this fabulous art because it gives her a chance to watch people fall in love with sewing! You can find Lisa online at The Avid Seamstress. Lisa will be offering a series of sewing workshops from absolute beginners to a chance to make one of her versatile & multi-functional sewing patterns.


Sara Rickards

Well Embroidered Owner, Sara Rickards fell in love with embroidery and fashion at the tender age of 8. At 17 she went to the Royal School of Needlework to study all aspects of hand embroidery in great depth, graduating with Distinction in 2006.

From there she went to work with one of the leading embroidery companies, gaining invaluable experience within the fashion industry. Whilst there Sara worked for some of the top names in the industry, such as Ben De Lisi, Jenny Packham, Julien Macdonald and Vera Wang. She also set up a school of embroidery, where she taught many aspiring embroiderers.

In 2011 Sara decided to set up her own business, continuing her work within the fashion industry and extending further into other areas such as ecclesiastical, teaching, art and embroidered accessories.


Karen Hunt

Karen’s career in Floral Design spans over a wide range of businesses and projects.

Karen has worked on both interior design and floral design including large scale projects for high end brands, hotels, restaurants and stores such as The Dorchester, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Liberty’s, The Fat Duck in Bray, Cannes Film Festival, Alice Temperley and Jane Packer.

Karen went on to being involved in setting up Jane Packer’s concession in Selfridges and running demo workshops in the Jane Packer Studio.

Karen will be running our floral courses and workshops.


Magda is qualified as a Master of Arts in Industrial Design from the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Poland. 

In 2003 Magda moved to London and for a few years worked for prestigious fashion label, Nigel Preston & Knight.Her work and area of expertise included fine embroidery, prototyping and bespoke sheepskin garments. During her employment, projects took Magda to a beautiful Chateau in Normandy, a leather factory in Perugia, Italy, and the largest sheepskin factory in the world in Istanbul, Turkey. 

Magda moved to Harpenden with her family in 2011 where she began her hand painted furniture business.

For the last couple of years she has occasionally worked freelance on bespoke projects for Shimmering Ivory Bridal Couture.

In 2019 Magda will be running several inspiring, creative workshops.’
