Shimmering Studio
This class is designed for kids and teens age 9-15. It will run over 6 weeks after school. We will be doing a project over the sessions and teaching the kids and teens sewing machine skills, some pattern making and some hand sewing.
They will complete a project from start to finish with our supervision. This could be a tote bag, a skirt, a pair of shorts or upcycling a pair of jeans or other garment.
We aim to inspire and teach your Children and Teenagers! It will be a fun interactive course leaving them confident to start making their own projects at home!
This workshop covers:
- Machine safety
- Learn the different functions of the sewing machine
- Threading the machine
- Winding a bobbin
- Tension
- Changing a needle, needle position, needle size
- Mastering sewing machine speed control
- Sewing straight lines, curves and corners
- Sewing seams (understanding seam allowance)
- Finishing seams and reverse stitching
- Using a seam ripper
- How to use the overlocking (serging) stitch on a sewing machine
- Top-stitching
Skills needed: This class is designed for beginners and intermediates
Materials: All materials and machines will be provided in the workshop.
Teenagers are welcome to bring their own fabric or garment to upcycle if they wish.
